"Done Is Better Than Perfect.”
I didn’t coin the phrase, but that’s where I’ve arrived with launching the journal for my coaching practice. I needed to kick it off the edge and dig in. So here it is, in its “raw” state.
Like the process of birth itself, breathing life into a new business is messy and never perfect. We see the mega brands’ advertising and we see “perfection” personified, and that’s what we want for our startup business. But really? Do we have those resources at hand? And the cost and time required to gain perfection?
The reality of starting up (and running) a business? It's messy and always inevitably “incomplete” and “a work in progress.” If we wait for perfection, the product or service would never be launched or would certainly be launched later than intended, with the net result of losing sales and potential market share. Don’t believe me? Look to the big players in the world of software and the way in which they release their products: Version 1, Version 1.01, Version 1.1, etc. You get the picture. The product is never perfect on the first release; rather, it’s iterated over time.
So here I am, tapping away at the keyboard, trying to find the right tone of voice that will resonate with my coaching practice. As I write, I know it’s far from perfect, but I know that the more I write, the closer I will get to where I want it to be. But for now, “Done is better than perfect.”
Oh yes, right now, after months of trying to find the right name for my coaching practice, I’ve settled on “A Curious Adventure.”
